The Pariah House – Cannonball Surrender (Showtek vs…)

0

The Pariah House

Brand new release (within mere hours) from The Pariah House of Santiago, Dominican Republic. We’ve lost track of this DJ duo and I wish we hadn’t. Cannonball Surrender is an Electro House Mashup with samples from Showtek featuring Justin Prime, plus Evermore and Hook N Sling. It has a steady build that gets your foot tapping along with the beat, until Evermore‘s vocals take the lead. Evermore is a band from Australia (originally of New Zealand). They worked with Hook N Sling during the summer of 2012 to push out Surrender, which is now available on Beatport for purchase.

Showtek’s Cannonball is a little newer, coming out closer to the end of 2012 with Justin Prime (of Amsterdam). It brings the Heavy House sound to The Pariah House’s Mashup. But Showtek’s (of Eindhoven, Netherlands) song has reached over 200,000 plays on SoundCloud alone. Part of the popularity of this song has likely come from working with legendary DJ/Producer Tiesto.

Honey Singh – Angreji Beat (DJ Kawal mashup)

DJ Kawal

Bollywooood, Bollywood Swinging! That only works if you’ve heard of the song Hollywood Swinging by Kool & The Gang. DJ Kawal, of India, has over 13 years of experience. He plays the best Bollywood Commercial House music around, or as I’d like to call it – BollyHouse music. DJ Kawal has a statement that he enjoys to reinforce through his productions, “music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.” I read that quote when I first started listening to his body of work on his SoundCloud account. I knew that I wasn’t going to ‘understand’ the lyrics of all his work, but rather, I could feel music instead. Though, some of his House remixes have a few English samples from our Top 40 artists.

For this one, I think I’ll go based on newest to oldest favorites. Now, I’m not sure all that is mashed into each, but this first one has Honey Singh and Gippy Grewal and is called Angreji Beat. It sounds like it also has Avicii’s Levels mixed in the beginning. But what I can feel is the consistent bassline throughout. I would love to see him do this live in a club – might have to fly over to India sometime soon.

The next one is named Chandani, or at least I think it is – could be another artist in India, I’ve also found it to be a movie title and a village development committee in Nepal. Either way, this one might be my favorite of DJ Kawal’s mashups. Strong Bollywood theme throughout. Plus, I pulled samples out from Flo Rida (not positive on that one – the sample of the counting), Pink Floyd (I was just as surprised to hear it as you were), Gotye, Ke$ha, Vinylshakerz (remixing Murray Head’s One Night in Bangkok), and Mohombi (that was easy enough to Google).

Finally, we have DJ Kawal’s remix to Dil Mera Muft Ka from the movie “Agent Vinod” (which makes me believe the previous song was in relation to “Chandani” the movie). Again, I was able to pull out the American samples, Enrique Iglesias with Usher and Lil Wayne, and Duck Sauce. Not as many as the gold mine we found above. But needless to say, I’m impressed with him and wanted to share him with the world! I know you’ll like him to, because frankly, it’s hard not to!

Duo Diamonds – House Couture #5

Duo Diamonds – The Maldives

How have I not heard of Duo Diamonds until just now? Hot DJ duos? I already know about The Jane Doze, then there’s also Krewella (though, that’s technically a trio and one of them is a dude… excluding the guy). But I thought that video above showed them off well enough for you to agree with me. The Duo Diamonds are from Kyiv, Ukraine and in addition to DJing they also are known to sing and make people dance. According to the Pro DJ Awards 2011, they were acknowledged as putting on the Best DJ Show. While I try not to share mixes, this one I couldn’t ignore. House Couture #5 is an addition to an already successful series they promote on their SoundCloud account. Hopefully you’re able to hear their House DJing skills and not just take them at face value – seriously, these girls have skill!

Modjo – Lady (Kaytranada Remix)

0

It’s International Tuesday and today we’re taking you to Montreal, Canada to hear the musical styling of Kaytranada (formerly known as Kaytradamus). His style ranges from House, to Hip Hop, to Electronica and even stretching out to Trap music with a bit of EDM too. A few of his remixes that I feel showcase his talent would include one he did about 5 months ago on Beyonce’s Party featuring Andre 3000. Who would have thought that Beyonce would sound good slowed down? I didn’t, but Katranada has shown it to be possible. Another fun remix is that of Janet Jackson’s If, which adds an extra bassline for extra poplocking Hip Hop music.

Finally, we have Kaytra’s newest release, Lady originally created by Modjo. It’s only a few days old and it already has over 1,000 downloads! I’m impressed and this is definitely one of my favorite remixes of his. I think this highlights his abilities in the best possible way.

Les Professionnels – Move! (Psychemagik Remix)

0

Les Professionnels are an electronic artists from the Dub Nebula, led by mastermind, Docteur Professeur. About two years ago they popped up in Philadelphia and have been on the rise ever since. Les Professionnels performed at Mercedez Benz Fashion Week in NYC 2012 at Lilium (W Hotel), SXSW 2012 with Hip Hop artist Young Gliss and have been billed with the likes of Childish Gambino among others. You may have also heard some of their music on MTV’s The Pauly D Project and Jersey Shore.

About seven months they did a track entitled “Move!” and have recently released the EP remix by Psychemagik. The original is considered to be ‘post-disco sleaze’ or better yet, Disco’s wet dream. The remix takes out a little of the traditional dance sound and puts more of an Electro House feel to the original. The forthcoming EP is scheduled to release on November 6th and will include remixes from top Indie artist/producers: Eliot Lipp (Pretty Lights Music / Brooklyn); Pete Herbert (London), and Lushlife (Western Vinyl / Philadelphia). The project is a part of the new Indie label, CNNSSR.

Club Level Series with Dcost & Massakerr

**Dcost performs LIVE on Thurs., Oct. 11 at 10pm EDT on Mixify!**

The Music Phoenix is going into the 4th installment of the Club Level Series this Thursday, October 11th with Dcost and DJ Massakerr. Dcost will be performing our opening set at 10:00pm (EDT) until roughly 11:30pm. At which point, DJ Massakerr will be taking center stage as the headliner, starting at 11:30pm and going until 1:00am. Make sure to join the Facebook event page to get the event updates (which will include the physical Mixify.com event links) and to help us spread the word to your loyal friends!

So far we’ve heard DJs from New York, Texas, California, Georgia and Flordia; but this week we are going outside the United States for the first time! Both Dcost and DJ Massakerr are from Canada; well more specifically, Hamilton, Ontario. We are very excited to take our “International Tuesday” concept to another level by including DJs from all over the world on our Club Level Series (Canada is just a start, we can’t wait to get European DJs involved).

DJ Massakerr has been featured on The Music Phoenix multiple times over the past year and we have become very familiar with his mashup style. He is currently a resident DJ for Volv Marketing and has had the opportunity to open for the likes of Basshunter and LA Riots. His most popular mashups have been top ranking songs on the Hyper Machines trending charts; Good Fucking Day & Night reached #5 and Gimmie Dat Sexy Cobra reached #24 (the latter being a personal favorite of ours). Dcost was hand-picked by Massakerr to perform with this Thursday with him, they have performed together in Canada and he’s very excited to share the virtual stage with Dcost.

Electronic Chronic 2 – Na Palm (ft. Milk n’ Cookies)

1

The new Electronic Chronic episode is out, podcast episode 2, by the EDMc, Na Palm with special guest, DJ Milk n Cookies. I’ve had a chance to listen to the entire mix once now, the first listen is all about exposure, hearing how it compares to the first episode with DJ Bad Boy Bill. I’ve already started it for a second listen, now I’m noticing sections I enjoy or didn’t fully notice the first time around. Like the first episode, it only took a few plays to become addicted, but every time I noticed something else. A Clint Eastwood sample in the beginning was something I noticed right away, now I’m noticing even more from the first five minutes and the music selected for my enjoyment (and your enjoyment as well). The end to part one grabs my attention once more with John Dahlback’s Embrace Me as remixed by the Dirty South. Right after that you heard Na Palm vs. Madeon on the Martin Solveig Night Out bootleg. That was the highlight of my first listen, I’m excited to find out what will become my favorite section after a more repeated listen (an hour of glory is tough to process all within the first hour).

DJ Milk n’ Cookies is a unique duo out of Chicago, not only are they related, but they are identical twins! This is definitely the first I’ve ever heard of identical twins DJing together, and I love the idea! They are leading the Post-Bro House music movement. What a great pick by Na Palm to feature yet another outstanding DJ (this time, as he puts it, a ‘Midwest monster’) and spreading more awareness through his podcast series. Plus, the first half showcases Na Palm’s lyrical talent over some of the greatest EDM hits so far this year. The EDMc is here to stay, so sit back and enjoy his latest.

Silver Medallion – Stay Young (GTA Remix)

0

I want so badly to figure out who Silver Medallion reminds me of, the first time I heard Stay Young my mind felt that it was so familiar and yet brand new. I went back about 10 years ago, to the days when MTV brought us “Jackass” for the first time. I feel like this is something that Bam Margera would get into, especially with the remix by Miami’s Van Toth and JWLS aka GTA. Two artists that I looked into to see if they were close were Andrew W.K. and Deadsy. Not close enough to what I’m thinking, maybe it’s an 80′s group (though, I really feel like Silver Medallion reminds me of a band from the 90′s). If you hear it and can identify who I’m thinking of, you will be my hero for the week (hey, that’s more than just the day…). Perhaps we can help each other to figure this out. Either way, the original is great and I love this remix by GTA.
