I had the privilege of seeing a few great acts at Summerfest this year with Tiesto headlining. Though, admittedly, the person I was most interested in seeing perform was Steve Aoki. I have been following his music for some time now and haven’t been to too many EDM shows yet (Milwaukee doesn’t really give me the opportunity, at least not until this summer). The biggest surprise had to be the new music played by many of the DJs, but outside of that, I never thought I would see a producer throw cake out into the crowd. Steve Aoki did just that, he threw not 1, not 2, but 3 different cakes out to the crowd; I was definitely jealous of everyone in the pit.

Prior to the show, I hadn’t heard Steve Aoki’s remix of Kid Cudi’s Pursuit of Happiness; it makes sense, especially since he collaborated with him and Travis Barker in the past. It’s one of those songs that when I heard live I just found myself really getting into. It’s a chill song to begin with, then add the EDM vibe to it and it’s gold. The one song that I had stuck in my head at the end of the night (and I heard over eight hours worth of music) was his production with Afrojack featuring Miss Palmer, No Beef. Hearing this one live just gave it so much more life than it could ever possibly get from playing it at home with my own stereo system. Plus, the atmosphere of a couple thousand fans helps get you into the moment.
