J.Rabbit – Tequila (Remix)

Tequila!

Raise your hand if you like Tequila, I’m sorry I just can’t. BUT, luckily we’re not talking about taking shots. J.Rabbit’s remix of Tequila made me say “oh, this is good!” but not as plainly said as that. It’s one of those Oh’s that is accompanied with that sigh of disbelief. Now, say it again and with me when that first drop hits! I can’t pick a favorite drop either, yes there is quite the drops to select from, I count 6. Can you imagine the remake of Sandlot with this bootleg in the soundtrack? It would switch from chaw on the amusement park rides to a scene with Hercules (which was the dog’s name). Sandlot is not the point, J.Rabbits is and there are plenty more Trap/Dubstep gems on his SoundCloud account… including a Fresh Prince Remix!

NONONO – Pumpin Blood (The Jane Doze Remix)

NONONO

I have been sitting on this remix for too many days, I need to get it out while I can still consider it to be ‘brand new’. All of your attention should be on NONONO and The Jane Doze remix of Pumpin Blood for the next several hours (or at least the first several repeated listens). If you’ve heard the song already (the original that is), you are lucky. I want to say I have to, but honestly I can’t recall. I’ve listened to this remix too regularly to remember much before it! I think she has a distinctive voice (though, this sound is becoming more mainstream than it would have been a few years back). NONONO is from Stockholm, Sweden (there’s the International Tuesday tie-in you were waiting for!), The Jane Doze are however, stateside, hailing from New York. Can someone please tell me how a heart that is a lie can still pump blood?

MashMike – The Royals From Liverpool

The Beatles vs. Lorde

Is it just me, or has there been a recent outbreak of Beatles tributes? First there’s the double week on Glee (and yes, that means I follow that show enough to know that fact). Then Scott Melker releases several Beatles themed mashups and just last week, MashMike created a mashup that, well once you hear it, you can never listen to Lorde the same. The Royals From Liverpool, I have played this on repeat so many times that now when I listen to the original version of Lorde’s Royals, I’m waiting for Come Together to kick in. When it doesn’t blend in, I feel sad and feel like a key part of the song is missing. MashMike has played with my emotions!

Don’t Let Me Down was a mashup I heard a while ago but when it came on I knew within the first few seconds that I was going to love it. Notorious B.I.G., The Beatles, and Gramatik? Sold! The Melker Project released several other mashups under “The Skeetles” – I wasn’t as impressed with the rest of them. But it’s really hard to compare them when one stands so far above the rest. Either way, I find myself going back and forth between these two mashes and I’m totally satisfied with what they have created!

Mashup-Germany – Hey (What does the fox say)

What the Fox Say - Hey!

Yes, yes, we have all heard about what the fox says and you hate to admit it, but you (not so secretly) love it. Apparently, so does Mashup-Germany because he just released a new mashup that features the many things that the fox says (including Nee Nah Nah Nah). Take it as a highlight reel that you can’t get enough of! For some reason my mind drifts to Riva Starr‘s I Was Drunk when the mashup first starts. Something about that beat; which is actually Milk & Sugar versus Vaya Con Dios – Hey (Nah Neh Nah). Which, the more I think of it, sounds like Yolanda Be Cool’s We No Speak Americano (minus the saxes). But I digress, this is about the foxes after all! Listen for yourself.

Happy Thursday to all! If you made it this far into the week, you might need a song to keep you going through friday. Luckily, I have just the song. By now I’m sure you’ve heard of the 16 year old taking over the scene, Lorde, and her hit song “Royal”Infact, you might be even growing sick of it, but have you heard her other song, “The Love Club “? If you haven’t, I have you covered with this mashup created by Aukland, New Zealand DJ, Hamish Carter. He uses Lorde’s Love club as the background track, while adding Biggie on top of it, making it a highly addictive mashup. The Lorde song was already great, but as you all know, I’m a sucker for Biggie and this sounds like a mashup I would have thought of myself. Great Job all around! I bet you can’t listen to it just once! Bonus: I’m sure you can even sing along to the Biggie parts!

Skizzy Mars

Happy Tuesday everybody! For those of you that had yesterday off, I hope you accomplished everything you wanted to do! Today I am bringing you a brand new song from one of my favorite up and coming rappers, Skizzy Mars. The track is called Summer11 and is quite catchy. The song begins with a Daft Punk inspired background and soon dives into Skizzy’s rap. What I love about Skizzy is that his songs are upbeat and enjoyable at anytime of the day while you are doing any task. I hope the new tracks keep coming! What do you guys think of Skizzy? Do you like his style? Does he remind you of another rapper?

Jakubi – Can’t Afford It All

Radical Something - Ride It Out

I have been spending my Sunday relaxing to the cross of Daft Punk with Shwayze today! To me, those two artists are part of what you hear when you listen to Jakubi, the Hip Hop group from Melbourne, Australia. They actually credit Jamiroquai as an influence, which makes complete sense when that is said out loud. Even though Summer is coming to an end and college classes are beginning to ramp up at the end of this month (I’m sorry, I know you don’t want to acknowledge that quite yet), I feel like Can’t Afford It All puts me right back in June. No, it’s not written as a summer song, but the melody and the upbeat tune makes me want the gray skies of Wisconsin to clear and allow me to chill down at the beach.

While you’re grasping for the last bits of summer, you should also take a listen to Radical Something, if you haven’t discovered them already. They have a new album – “Ride It Out” – coming out on Labor Day, September 2, 2013. I have to say that I am really excited for this one to drop. Last month they dropped, Cheap Drinks, which I can only anticipate to be a single off of their album. They are currently on tour with several stops in Colorado coming up (lucky!), I may have to drive down to Chicago to see these guys.

Imagine Dragons – Radioactive (Swedtune & Thomas Remix)

artworks-000040245366-vs23jm-t200x200

Happy Friday everyone! Very sorry for my lack of posts, i’ve been very busy lately with school and internships etc. Anyways, I found a great song you all that will give you the boost to get through your Friday. It is a remix of Imagine Dragons’ - “Radio Active”. This remix comes to us from Sweedish artists Swedtune and Thomas. They take the original and really make it their own by making it more upbeat and adding the Swedish house effect. I havent stopped listening to it since I first heard it on Hoodie Allen’s Crusin’ USA tour episode 5. Give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Try to not break the repeat button.

Daft Punk ft. Pharrell Williams – Get Lucky

0

daft punk

Daft Punk released their first single at midnight (just minutes ago) and Pharrell gets the lucky feature in, Get Lucky. This is quite possibly the most anticipated album release in the past decade. The ‘leak’ controversy is now behind us and this is finally the real thing; no questions about it, this is Daft Punk. You can identify it a mile a way, it has their style all over it and it only leaves you wanting to hear more! In addition to Pharrell, this new single features Nile Rodgers on guitar. That image is just epic and I can’t wait to see the music video that will be associated with this. But for now, let’s just sit back and enjoy this new release and watch as everyone all over the internet talks nonstop about the latest Daft Punk!

will.i.am ft. Miley Cyrus – Fall Down

0

will.i.am

I have recently seen a lot of controversy around will.i.am and have been following it. The Huffington Post has a great article on the accusations. The claims are that will.i.am’s song with Chris Brown, Let’s Go, sound remarkably similar to House producers Mat Zo and Arty’s Rebound. His new album is due to come out on Tuesday, April 23rd and on iTunes, the song is question is not currently featured. Could it be related to all the controversy?

Good or bad, any publicity is good publicity and now I know that will.i.am has a new album coming out next week. I like a lot of the songs that he’s been putting out lately. He’s teamed up with Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, and Eva Simons; I’m curious to see who else ends up on the new album. Some say he should stay away from Electronic music, but really, this next generation seems to be gravitating towards EDM and it looks like will.i.am is embracing that fact. I always thought that the Black Eyed Peas were pretty cutting edge and stay ahead of the curve musically. Then Fergie broke off solo, followed by will.i.am and what’s this about him being a coach on the U.K.’s version of The Voice? Yeah, he’s all over the place these days.

Fall Down is his collaboration with Miley Cyrus, a new single released just days ago and I have to say, I’m hooked. It does seem a little weird to think of this song as the two singing to each other. Not quite the pairing I would have expected, for a love song especially. At first, I thought it was Fergie and found myself a little sad when I realized it wasn’t. It has a classical (almost dark) opening and extended ending. But very quickly, the intro shifts with the happy-go-lucky whistling. Simply put, it’s a fun and upbeat song.

Titus Jones – Closer to Kissing Fun Girls

0

titus jones

I know I know, I featured Titus Jones at the start of last week with his mashup, Lick Yr Daughter, but it was more so the PanosT music video edit that got the feature (okay, it was both Titus Jones and PanosT). But now he’s out with a brand new one called, Closer to Kissing Fun Girls; which, without any further details, already sounds like one heck of a song! This features three samples: Tegan and Sara’s Closer, Katy Perry’s I Kissed A Girl, and fun.’s Some Nights. I love the use of Tegan and Sara on this mashup, it reminds me of when I saw them in concert a few months ago! Plus, if you’re not getting how epic the mash is with I Kissed A Girl, then you must not know much about Tegan and Sara – the lesbian twins. Yeah. That’s why Titus Jones earned the extra feature so close to his last one. I see what you did there, and I liked it!

Also, DJ MADA (it’s Adam backwards – cool eh?) has a new remix out there. In fact, he flaunts that not only does he have an eleven year-old student, but he threw this together while teaching his student an example of how remixes, edits and original productions are made. MADA, how did you get such a young student and what do I have to do to get you to teach me to DJ like you!? Looks like I missed my shot when I lived in Denver to have you as a mentor (granted, I’m not 11, far from it actually). If you get a chance to see DJ MADA live, do so. I saw him DJ for Na Palm and enjoyed it so much I sought him out on SoundCloud.
